About Vision2Brain
Roxana Cziker, PhD
I am a specialist in functional vision and visual processing, with more than 25 years of international professional experience in visual impairment, cerebral visual impairment (CVI), neurodevelopmental conditions and brain-related visual difficulties.
My work brings together functional vision assessment and individualised visual skills training, supported by my experience in research, professional education and service development. I focus on understanding how people use vision and how visual difficulties can influence development, learning, movement and everyday life. This understanding helps me to design individualised visual skills training based on each person’s individual needs.
Through Vision2Brain, I bring together my background in psychology, medical sciences and optometry to provide functional vision assessment and individualised visual skills training for children and adults.

Professional Background
I began my career in 1996, working with children with visual impairment and cerebral visual impairment in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. This early experience shaped a professional path dedicated to understanding vision beyond visual acuity — including how visual information is processed, integrated and used in learning, movement and everyday life.
My academic background includes two PhDs, in Psychology and Medical Sciences. My doctoral research focused on visual stimulation in children with visual impairment and on the interdisciplinary assessment of visual difficulties related to brain injury and and their impact on functional vision.
My international experience spans Romania, France and Iceland, working with children and adults with visual impairment, cerebral visual impairment (CVI), complex developmental needs and visual difficulties associated with acquired brain injury, particularly traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Since moving to Iceland in 2015, I have contributed to the development of services for children and adults with cerebral visual impairment, building on my doctoral research and professional experience. In 2019, I founded Vision2Brain.

Scientific and Functional Perspective
My approach is informed by research and scientific knowledge in disability, visual impairment and visual neuroscience, together with the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).
This means looking beyond a diagnosis or visual difficulty to understand how a person uses vision in everyday life, what activities may be difficult, and how this may influence participation at home, school, work and in the community.
My work brings together three perspectives:
Understanding Vision
Considering how the eyes and brain take in, process and use visual information.
Understanding Everyday Difficulties
Exploring how visual difficulties appear during specific activities and in everyday situations.
Individualising Support and Training
Using what I learn from the assessment to guide individualised visual skills training, helpful ways of using vision and practical changes that may make everyday activities easier.
